Rapper Fetty Wap released from prison after serving three years
‘Trap Queen’ rapper Fetty Wap has been released from prison after serving over three years on federal drug charges.
The New Jersey artist, real name Willie Maxwell, became a free man on January 8th, being released to home confinement three years earlier than scheduled.
He was sentenced to six years in prison in May 2023 after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess and distribute 500 grams or more of cocaine.
Fetty shared a statement to Billboard following his release from FCI Sandstone in Sandstone, Minnesota, this week.“I want to thank my family, friends, and fans for the love, prayers, and continued support – it truly means everything to me,” he said.
The statement continued, “Right now, my focus is on giving back through my community initiatives and foundation, supporting at-risk young children by expanding access to education, early tech skills, and vision care for young kids and students so they can show up as their best selves.”
He added, “I’m committed to moving forward with purpose and making a meaningful impact where it matters most.”
According to TMZ, Fetty will be released from oversight custody on November 8th. From there, he will undergo strict and supervised guidelines for five years.
The rapper took to his Instagram Stories to celebrate his release, simply writing, “Home.”
Fetty’s self-titled album topped the Billboard 200 chart in 2015 with 129,000 units in its first week. It was certified platinum by the RIAA in 2016.
His single, ‘Trap Queen’ reached number two on the Hot 100 and received two nominations at the Grammy Awards. The songs ‘My Way’, ‘Again’, and ‘679’, which appeared on Fetty Wap, were also huge successes.
