Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien has shared a remix of Paul McCartney’s ‘Slidin’, which appeared on the recently released album McCartney III.
The EOB remix is taken from the upcoming album McCartney III Imagined, which arrives on April 16th and features new versions of all the tracks with other acclaimed artists’ assistance. Elsewhere on the record, St. Vincent remixed the song, ‘Women and Wives’, Damon Albarn taking on ‘Long Tailed Winter Bird’ and Phoebe Bridgers featuring a new version of ‘Seize The Day’.
Commenting on why he chose ‘Slidin’, O’Brien told BBC 6 Music: “I really liked [Slidin’], and so I said to Paul Epworth, would you fancy getting stuck in? He was really up for it. It was great,” O’Brien said.
The Radiohead man added: “A moment of light in the darkness of the winter that’s just been. We had a lot of fun. Got into [McCartney’s] vocals and added some chaos, some guitar – my reference point was ‘Helter Skelter’, ramp up the intensity!”
The track is one of the stand-out moments from McCartney’s most recent record and showed that wilder side to the former Beatle, which O’Brien has tapped into for his remix of ‘Slidin’.
Meanwhile, Radiohead have announced details of a live-streamed series of rare shows from their archive. The project will run for seven weeks, with the set of broadcasts kicking off in style this Friday (April 9th). The performance that is first up is the Oxfordshire band’s intimate set at London’s 93 Feet East from 2008, which was an impromptu set that has become the stuff of legend among their fanbase.
