R Kelly has seen his concert in Chicago cancelled due to the allegations of sexual misconduct and assault made against him.
The cancellation comes as Women of Color of Time’s Up, a subcommittee of the Time’s Up movement, issued an open letter condemning R Kelly. The statement asks multiple leading companies within the music industry to cut ties with the R&B singer. They include the likes of RCA Records, Ticketmaster, Spotify, and Apple Music.
The open letter comes in the wake of the recent and disturbing allegations of physical and sexual abuse against him. Those accusations include grooming a 14-year-old girl as a ‘sex pet’ and ‘knowingly and intentionally’ infecting a woman with an STD.
Kelly has responded to this cancellation on Twitter, sharing a video in which he said: “First of all, I want to apologise to all of my fans in Chicago, and basically all around the world wherever I’m performing at and they cancelled me.”
Adding: “I don’t know why they cancelled the show. I never heard of a show being cancelled because of rumours, but I guess there’s a first time for everything. So I apologise to you guys and in the meantime, I’m going to try to get to the bottom line of it, you know, as far as my lawyers are concerned, and see exactly what happened and why I was cancelled.”
