Quentin Tarantino reveals top ten films of the 21st century

Quentin Tarantino has revealed his top ten favourite films that have been released over the course of the 21st century so far, with one surprising pick making the top of the list.

The acclaimed director was appearing on The Brett Easton Ellis Podcast with the iconic author of American Psycho when he revealed his top film choices of the past 25 years.

The first half of his list, spanning from number 20 to 11, was released last week, with the likes of Battle Royale, Moneyball, and Steven Spielberg’s modern remake of West Side Story all making it into the leagues.

However, now he has revealed his most pivotal top ten picks, with none other than Black Hawk Down, directed by Ridley Scott, taking the prized crown.

Speaking of the 2001 war movie, Tarantino espoused his love for it by saying: “I think it’s a masterwork, and one of the things I love so much about it is […] this is the only movie that actually goes completely for an Apocalypse Now sense of purpose and visual effect and feeling, and I think it achieves it.”

He added: “It keeps up the intensity for two hours 45 minutes, or whatever it is, and I watched it again recently. My heart was going through the entire runtime of the movie; it had me and never let me go, and I hadn’t seen it in a while. The feat of direction is beyond extraordinary.”

Other picks that made it high up on the top ten list were Toy Story 3, which Tarantino described as “almost a perfect movie” that “ripped my fucking heart out”, along with Sofia Coppola’s Lost in Translation.

On the latter, he joked: “I fell so much in love with Lost in Translation that I fell in love with Sofia Coppola and made her my girlfriend.”

Towards the lower half of the list, Tarantino went for a similarly all-encompassing series of films, including Mad Max: Fury Road, Shaun of the Dead, and Midnight In Paris.
