Quentin Tarantino reveals his “masterpiece”, his “favourite” film, and the movie he was “born to make”

Quentin Tarantino has given his verdict on some of his own best films, revealing what he thinks is his “masterpiece”, his “favourite”, and the movie he was “born to make”.

The prolific director made the revelations during a recent appearance on The Church of Tarantino podcast, in which he discussed what he considered to be the very top echelons of his work.

Tarantino said: I think Inglourious Basterds is my masterpiece, but Once Upon a Time in Hollywood is my favourite,” before going on to explain the movie that comes out on top above them all, being what he thinks was his stroke of genius.

“But I think Kill Bill is the ultimate Quentin movie, like nobody else could’ve made it. Every aspect about it is so particularly ripped, like with tentacles and bloody tissue, from my imagination and my id and my loves and my passion and my obsession. So I think Kill Bill is the movie I was born to make,” the filmmaker noted.

Across the rest of the course of the wide-ranging interview, Tarantino also gave thought to The Hateful Eight as “probably my best directing of my material”, before going on to explain that despite his love for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, he was not drawn to direct its sequel, The Adventures of Cliff Booth, as he didn’t like the idea of his tenth and final movie being a sequel.

“It just kind of unenthused me,” Tarantino added. “This last movie, I’ve got to not know what I’m doing again. I’ve got to be in uncharted territory.”

To this end, the filmmaker went on to reveal why his latest script, The Movie Critic, was ultimately axed, as he pondered: “Who wants to see a TV show about a fucking movie critic? Who wants to see a movie called The Movie Critic?”
