Public Service Broadcasting announce fourth studio LP

London’s very own gaggle of experimental art-pop weirdos, Public Service Broadcasting, have announced the release date for their fourth studio album Bright Magic. It will be shared on September 24.

“Doing this felt inevitable, somehow,” says the band’s one man-vanguard J. Willgoose, Esq. “In my head, it was whirring and pulsing away for a long time, even before Every Valley – this fascinating, contrary, seductive place. I knew the album was going to be about the city, and its history and myths, and I was going to move there. So it’s quite a personal story. It’s become an album about moving to Berlin to write an album about people who move to Berlin to write an album.”

Public Service Broadcasting are one of those bands that didn’t start out as a band at all. At first, it was just Willgoose and some electronic samples creating instrumental soundscapes. That’s still what it mostly is, except that these days Willgoose has partners in crime: JF Abraham on bass/assorted instruments and the wonderfully mononymous Wigglesworth on drums/assorted instruments. Wikipedia makes specific reference to Abraham playing the vibraslap, a kooky percussion instrument often used for either comic relief, Cake songs, or comic relief in Cake songs, as if to say that him playing the said instrument is not only notable but a central tenet of this band.
