Production on ‘Tomb Raider’ paused following injury to Sophie Turner

The production on Tomb Raider has been paused after star Sophie Turner suffered an injury.

Turner is set to play Lara Croft in the upcoming television series, produced by Amazon MGM Studios, which will also feature Jason Isaacs and Sigourney Weaver in prominent roles.

In a statement, the production company told Deadline, “Sophie Turner recently experienced a minor injury. As a precaution, production has briefly paused to allow her time to recover. We look forward to resuming production as soon as possible.”

However, the production isn’t expected to face a major setback, and they expect that they will resume shooting in two weeks’ time. Crew members will still also be paid for their time.

During an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon in January, Turner said of her preparation for the role, “I’ve been training since February last year, so I feel like I could probably beat you up right now.”

Production officially began on the series earlier this year, with Amazon MGM Studios also sharing a first look image of Turner as Croft on social media.

The adaptation has been created, written, and executive-produced by Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge, with production largely taking place in the UK.

Notably, Tomb Raider has been adapted twice for the big screen. Angelina Jolie played Croft in a 2001 movie based on the hit video game, while Alicia Vikander also starred in a 2018 adaptation, both of which were box office smashes.

As it stands, no release date has been announced for the new project, which may not arrive on Prime Video until 2027.
