New Prince live album and streaming event announced

The estate of Prince has revealed their plans to release a new live album, Prince and the Revolution: Live, which will be featured in a new live streaming event.

The featured concert, which is set to be broadcast across three days on streaming platform YouTube, was recorded at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York on March 30, 1985.

The event marked the first official live concert footage that Prince released. The show was converted into a television broadcast and, subsequently, released as home video.

Having been reworked prior to this moment, Prince and the Revolution: Live was first released in 1985 before being remastered for a special deluxe edition which was later included as a DVD around the 2017 Purple Rain release.

The concert in New York famously included Prince performance with his band, The Revolution, which included the likes of guitarist Wendy Melvoin, keyboardists Lisa Coleman and Matt Fink and drummer Bobby Z.

To mark the new YouTube event, Bobby Z will host a Q&A session shortly prior to the premiere which begins on May 14.

The new project marks attempts by the Prince estate to raise money for the World Health Organisation’s coronavirus Solidarity Response Fund.
