Prince’s Estate have released an acoustic demo of the Purple One, Prince’s 1979 song ‘I Feel for You’ which you can hear below. It’s a raw and vulnerable song which is an essential listen.
Said to have been recorded in the winter of 1978-1979, the acoustic number manages to “capture a 20-year-old Prince in a raw, intimate moment” as we are brought back to the early days of such a mercurial artist.
Prince vault archivist Michael Howe said: “I was blown away. Here is 20-year-old Prince thinking aloud, feeling his way through the song. You hear his incredible talent shining through on acoustic guitar, which is not something he typically showcased, and his guide vocal is astonishingly great.”
Today also marks the 40th anniversary of Prince’s second self-titled record being released into the wild. It’s still one of the most engaging and inspiring LPs to date. Take a listen below to Prince’s acoustic demo of ‘I Feel For You’.
