Primavera Sound 2019 has committed to gender equality with the latest lineup announcement.

Earlier this year Far Out reported the news that 45 international music festivals have pledged a 50/50 gender-equal lineup split by 2022. Now, it appears Primavera have upped their game on what is already another jam-packed collection of artists.

Vanessa Reed, CEO of PRS Foundation, said: “The push for gender parity across society continues and with increased public awareness of inequalities across the creative industries, we have an opportunity to respond and commit to tangible change in music… I hope that this will be the start of a more balanced industry which will result in benefits for everyone.”

Primavera Sound have listened. With over 226 acts already announced for the event, more than half of them a female fronted. The likes of Cardi B, Janelle Monáe, Solange, Erykah Badu and Rosalía have been given headline slots.

On top of that, leading names such as Robyn, FKA twigs, Carly Rae Jepsen, Christine and the Queens, SOPHIE, Yaeji, Kali Uchis, Tomberlin Big Thief and many more have been included.
