Wow, are we happy to have the dibs on this one? Sometimes music can become a bit beige if you listen to as much as we do. You find yourself splitting genre-hairs to accommodate a certain guitar sound or a certain vocal style when really it doesn’t actually matter. What actually matters is that moment a band or artist comes at you, full-force. with something fresh, exciting and a little scary. Enter Go!Zilla and their new video for ‘Hailing, It’s Hailing’.
Let’s get the awkward introdcutions out of the way first. Ahem… Go!Zilla are an Italian Psychedelic Fuzz band formed on late 2011 in Firenze and composed of Luca Landi (guitar/vocals), Mattia Biagiotti (guitar/vocals) Fabio Ricciolo (drums) and Niccolò Odori (Synth/percussion). They’ve become a bit of a name on the desolate and disturbing garageland of the European live show circus. Finding themselves playing some high profile festivals as well as being the hottest shit on the toilet circuit. It’s a mix that we here at Far Out cherish more than anything.
The track and video is a perfect performance of this dizzying and delightful mix. The track is a slow-burning firecracker and shows the change the band are pursuing with their new album Modern Junbgle’s Prisoners. The video though offers a somewhat demented perspective which falls back on the supporting song with the calm and screwy confidence of a mental patient.
The LP is the Go!Zilla comeback record. They’re back with a bang after 2 years from the last release. Is the beginning of a new sound adventure for the 5 Italians from the psych rock to the search of new sound territories to give life to a concept album about the mental captivity in the urban jungle.
A special collaboration with Enrico Gabrielli (Pj Harvey, Calibro 35 etc) that plays sax in ‘Falling Down Ground’ and the German Thomas Hoepker, author of the picture in the front cover: a murales of a forest in the South Bronx that describes exactly what ‘Modern Jungle’s Prisoners’ is. The album is out on April 27th 2018.
