Plot details revealed for new James Corden and Ruth Jones sitcom
A title and plot details have been revealed for the new TV show being created by Gavin and Stacey writers James Corden and Ruth Jones.
It was announced over the weekend that the pair would be writing a new comedy series for Apple TV+ to be filmed and premiered over the next two years, but few other details were provided at the time.
Now, according to Deadline, the new show will be titled The Choir and star Corden and Jones as a brother and sister duo, Ben and Lisa. Loose plot details are said to revolve around the fact that Ben is forced to return to his quiet home town due to an unfortunate event, having lived abroad for several years, and confront his sibling, who he has not seen in all that time.
The comedy series is set to span the course of eight episodes, with Corden’s production company, Fulwell 73, producing the project. Filming is reportedly set to begin next year, with a slated premiere rumoured for 2027, although specific dates within this are yet to be confirmed.
The new venture from the pair comes after rife speculation over what course their next project would take. Their beloved British sitcom, Gavin and Stacey, broke records last Christmas when its finale became the most-watched TV show in the UK, drawing in well over 20 million viewers.
Gavin and Stacey ran sporadically over the course of 17 years, with its three core series being released from 2007 until 2010, and two specials following thereafter in 2019 and 2024, respectively.
The Choir is seemingly set to follow a similar format with Corden and Jones both writing the show and starring as some of its main characters, as they previously played the fan-favourite roles of Smithy and Nessa at the true heart of the series.
Corden and Jones have not yet spoken publicly over their plans for The Choir.
