Piper Perabo hints at ‘Coyote Ugly’ sequel: “There’s been some discussion”
Piper Perabo has teased the idea of reprising her role in Coyote Ugly for a sequel, tentatively saying, “there’s been some discussion” around the cult film.
The actor was reminiscing on the 25th anniversary of her breakout role with The Hollywood Reporter, when she elusively hinted at potential plans for a follow-up to the beloved movie.
Perabo, who played the lead role of aspiring songwriter Violet Sanford, said: “There has been some discussion about that [a sequel]. Some things are being discussed. I can’t really say, but people that were doing it are talking about some stuff.”
She added: “There’s a lot of cooks in the kitchen right now, but things are moving around,” before going on to jokingly float some title ideas, such as “Coyote-er Ugly.”
Not being drawn on whether a script is in development, Perabo stated: “I can’t say anything about that, but I will say that people that were integral to making it are in communication about how to do something more.”
In elusively confirming that a second film could be on the cards, Perabo joins co-star Banks, who has been trying to persuade the original company to develop a sequel for many years.
A quarter of a century on from its original release back in 2000, Coyote Ugly has risen in popularity to become a cult classic, despite receiving largely negative critical reviews at the time.
The film followed Perabo as Violet Sanford, the aspiring songwriter who moves to New York and takes on a job at the infamous and titular bar, coming across characters played by Adam Garcia, John Goodman, and Banks along the way.
Despite its poor critical reception, however, Coyote Ugly fared relatively successfully at the box office, grossing over $113 million worldwide.
