Phoebe Dynevor says there are “not many parts going” for women in her age bracket
British actor Phoebe Dynevor, has spoken about the scope of acting opportunities for young women, suggesting that there are few roles available to her age bracket.
After appearing in various British television shows since she was a teen, Dynevor landed a lead role in the regency romance, Bridgerton. Since then, the Manchester-born actor made her film debut in 2021 with The Colour Room. She has also appeared in Bank of Dave and Fair Play.
Now, during a conversation with the London Evening Standard, the 28-year-old has suggested that there are “not many parts going” for women her age.
“There is such a space for male actors,” she lamented, “there are so many of them. And they’re all great. They’re all very talented young men, and they do not stop working, and good for them.”
Still, Dynevor has found the differing opportunities available to women disheartening, sharing, “But you know, when I think about the girls my age… there’s way more room for them and there is still not enough room for us.”
Dynevor even suggested that the landscape for older women in the industry is preferable right now, concluding, “It’s a really good time for older women which is amazing and there’s a lot for these young men, but not a lot for the actresses that I know in my age bracket.”
Hopeful to rectify this issue herself, the former Bridgerton star shared her hopes to move into a production role one day, “to create the material that I feel is missing. I don’t know when that will be, but it’s a dream of mine.”
Until then, Dynevor is set to appear in two upcoming features, Inheritance alongside Rhys Ifans, and Anniversary with Kyle Chandler and Diane Lane.
