Phoebe Bridgers has drafted in the big guns for her new video. As well as recruiting the incredibly talented creator of hit TV show Fleabag in Phoebe Waller-Bridge, a star whom Bridgers has said inspired her album Punisher, the singer-songwriter has also welcomed Paul Mescal, the lead in Normal People, to help out on a brand new clip for her song ‘Savior Complex’.
While most people spent much of lockdown picking the fluff from their respective belly buttons, Phoebe Bridgers spent it finessing the promotion of her new LP Punisher. Most artists would have been stuck when presented a zero chance of gigging and, therefore, promoting their new music. But Bridgers, undeterred, instead embarked on a series of livestream spots and TV shows.
What she was also doing, it appears, was catching up with a hero of hers in Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Speaking with Pitchfork as part of their Moodboard interview, where the singer discussed her admiration of Fleabag creator: “Dirtbag dudes have Larry David and I have Phoebe Waller-Bridge,” she said. “She strikes a fucking chord in me.”
The duo apparently connected via email and have now produced a quite stunning video for her Punisher track ‘Savior Complex’ featuring Paul Mescal too.
It’s been an extremely busy year for Bridgers and with countless spots on the ‘Best Albums of the Year’ lists to come, not to mention the shot at Grammy gold, Bridgers may well be the only person in the world who has enjoyed a successful 2020.
