Phil Collins gives hopeful health update and reveals he is “contemplating” another tour
Though Phil Collins has ruled out a performance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later this year, he has revealed that he is “contemplating” another tour amid a hopeful health update.
Following a spinal injury in 2007, the former Genesis drummer has consistently suffered from health issues. At Genesis’ final shows in 2022, Collins performed from a chair while his son, Nic, deputised on the drums.
In January, Collins admitted in a rare interview that he had the aid of “a 24-hour live-in nurse to make sure I take my medication as I should do”. At the time also added, “I’ve had challenges with my knee, I had everything that could go wrong with me, did go wrong with me.”
However, in a new interview with BBC Breakfast on May 22nd, Collins offered a more promising health update, happily sharing, “I’m healthier now than I have been for quite a while.”
Collins then revealed that he had been asked to perform at the 2026 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony: “They asked me if I would perform and I said no, because you’ve got to be match fit to do something like that,” he said.
He explained, “You can’t just go on stage and — you’re gonna have to rehearse and then by that point, if you’ve not been singing, your voice is going to be shot and then that’s not gonna be good. So I’d rather not do it.”
However, this doesn’t mean Collins won’t ever perform again. The star admitted that he would “contemplate” another live performance in his future.
He mused, “But whether I would go out again, I would contemplate, yeah. I’m constantly saying to myself, I better go back down into my studio at home.”
Collins appeared on stage for the final Genesis shows with a walking stick. Earlier this year, he explained, “I had five operations on my knee now – I’ve got a knee that works and I can walk, albeit with assistance, you know, crutches or whatever.”
Collins has come on leaps and bounds after a worrying update in 2025, where he admitted, “I keep thinking I should go downstairs to the studio and see what happens. But I’m not hungry for it anymore. The thing is, I’ve been sick, I mean very sick.”
