Phil Collins announces deluxe vinyl box set of ‘Face Value’ for 45th anniversary

Phil Collins has announced a brand new 4-LP Deluxe vinyl set of his debut solo album, Face Value (Full Value).

The new release, which will be available from September 18th, contains the original album half-speed remastered at Abbey Road, plus rare and unreleased live recordings, demos, and outtakes.

Beyond that, fans will also have access to a brand new interview with Collins in the liner notes, conducted by journalist Tom Doyle.

In celebration of the album’s 45th birthday, Collins has included a previously unreleased live version of ‘You Know What I Mean’ from the album, recorded live at Perkins Palace in Pasadena in 1982.

The box set also contains an unreleased outtake of Collins’ cover of The Beatles’ ‘Tomorrow Never Knows’ and a previously unreleased full version of ‘Over The Rainbow’.

Face Value (Full Value) also plays host to rare, stripped-back first live performances of ‘In The Air Tonight’ and ‘The Roof Is Leaking’ featuring guitarist Daryl Stuermer.

Meanwhile, in an interview earlier this week, Collins explained that he’s looking forward to coming face-to-face with Noel Gallagher at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later this year after more than three decades of insults.

It appears that Collins is ready to let bygones be bygones, telling MOJO, “The [Hall Of Fame] inductees have all been invited to a lunch before the ceremony. Which will be interesting, as I’m sure to bump into Oasis.”

He also believes he can trace back the moment that turned Noel, who, according to the MOJO article, was left scared after attending a Genesis concert “completely out of it” in the 1980s, against him, adding, “Now I’ve thought this through and although Noel didn’t specify what song it was, I reckon it was ‘Mama’, where I go (recites the lyric) ‘Ha-ha-ha… Oww,’ with the light under my face.”

Collins continued, “I think ‘Mama’ is why Noel called me the antichrist. But I’m giving him the benefit of the doubt here, and assuming he doesn’t really think I’m the antichrist.”
