American indie rock band have reunited to play a secret show in Los Angeles, it has been revealed.
A string of posts on social media appeared to show the much-loved band play a concert in the Beverly Hills area over the weekend. Phantom Planet, who earned a cult following since the formation of the band way back in 1994, called an indefinite hiatus of the band in 2008.
Writing on their website at the time, they wrote:
“This could be the most difficult piece of news we have ever had to post. Sadly, Phantom Planet will be playing our last show, December 12, at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, the same venue that we played our very first live all ages gig, back in 1994. We have had an amazing time playing together for 15 years, but we have officially decided to go on hiatus, and will not be playing any more live shows or making any new records, indefinitely. There is so much more to write, but at this time, we just want to say thank you, to everyone, for their support, friendship, inspiration, attendance, and love.”
Since that moment the band briefly got back together in 2011 for a string reunion shows but nothing serious materialised. However, earlier this week a Phantom Planet Instagram account was created and rumours began to circulate that the band could be reforming. On top of all that, band members started posting the logo on their personal social media accounts.
Well, it would appear something big is happening as an impromptu show was captured by some lucky fans in LA:
