Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready on whether band will tour again: “It’s going to happen”

Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready has provided an update on the status of the band, revealing he wants to tour with them again, but nothing is currently planned.

The legendary grunge have not played live since May 2025, when their world tour in support of their most recent album, Dark Matter, concluded.

Then, last July, longtime drummer Matt Cameron, who joined Pearl Jam in 1998, announced his departure from the group, later explaining, “I was having some issues with (Pearl Jam’s) three-hour shows and constant touring and stuff.”

As it stands, Pearl Jam are not currently back in the studio or have any dates lined up in the calendar, but McCready is optimistic that will change shortly.

In a new interview with Spin, he explained, “We’ve been emailing a lot, talking and calling each other. The way we work, as you know, is that we can be very slow and then all of a sudden we’re very fast. So, we’re kind of in our slow phase.”

The guitarist then fuelled fans’ hopes, adding, “It’s going to happen, but I just don’t know when. I would also love to go out and tour this year sometime, but we don’t have anything planned.”

In the same conversation, McCready shared his thoughts on Cameron’s departure, saying of his former bandmate, “All of us felt that playing with Matt Cameron was a dream come true. He’s such a solid force, and we were so lucky to get him when we needed him.”

He also wishes nothing but the best for Cameron in his future endeavours, sharing, “I’m looking forward to the future and whatever that may be, but I love Matt and I want him to pursue whatever he wants to pursue and be successful at it. I wish him the best on his journeys.”

McCready’s latest comments come after the band’s frontman, Eddie Vedder, previously confirmed that Pearl Jam are “in the lab, we’re woodshedding, excited. As much as we’d like to have done it the way we did it forever — and we’ll still be able to do that thing, I think we’re all just excited for the future.”
