PJ Harvey’s cover of ‘Red Right Hand’ premieres first-ever ‘Peaky Blinders’ soundtrack
The first-ever Peaky Blinders soundtrack has been announced with PJ Harvey’s cover of Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds song ‘Red Right Hand’ being shared as the first taster.
The decision to finally release the official soundtrack comes after five hugely successful seasons created by Steven Knight since its launch in 2013. While the antics of Tommy Shelby have kept us hooked during that time, the show’s choice of music has continually earned its own plaudits which have been pinned on its decision to use Nick Cave’s iconic song as its opening gambit.
Now, for the first time in its history, the show has collected the iconic tracks used throughout the five seasons and will release it digitally, on CD and on vinyl. The CD version will also be released with a 32-page book which includes quotes from the cast, behind-the-scenes images and notes.
“The Peaky Blinders story and the music we use are twins, born at the same time,” said show creator Knight said in a statement. “It would be difficult to imagine most of the pivotal moments without the soundtrack. I’m so glad that at last we have been able to put some of the tracks together on one album, to put the atmosphere and swagger and snarl of the show into your headphones and speakers.”
To coincide with the news, the brains behind the new soundtrack release have offered up its first taster by sharing PJ Harvey’s take on Cave’s ‘Red Right Hand’ which was recorded for the show.
Elsewhere, expect the likes of Idles, Arctic Monkeys, The White Stripes, Laura Marling, Royal Blood, David Bowie, Savages and plenty more. See the full tracklist, below.
