Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen reunite for special appearance in Liverpool at LIPA
As Bruce Springsteen continues to storm through his European tour, he caught up with fellow music legend Paul McCartney during his stop in Liverpool.
‘The Boss’ is currently on a massive tour of Europe, with strong words geared towards President Donald Trump being a consistent part of the show. This week, he’s playing two shows at Anfield in Liverpool, which gave him the opportunity to reunite with the former Beatle when he ventured to the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts, which was founded by McCartney in 1996.
After attending school in the same building in his youth, the former Beatle had seen that his alma mater was growing more ramshackle and sought to turn it into a school with a special attention to the arts. With the help of Mark Featherstone-Witty, the school started business in 1996 and has continued to support children’s creative practices to this day. It has produced many acts, such as producer Mike Crossey and The Wombats.
The heartland rocker has always wanted to perform in Liverpool, which he views as hallowed ground ever since being blown away by The Beatles when he first picked up a guitar. However, his first appearance on Merseyside didn’t come until June 4th. Other members of the E Street Band, such as drummer Max Weinberg and guitarist Stevie Van Zandt, were also in attendance when meeting with the students this week.
During their visit, Van Zandt’s wife, Maureen, was there to capture a few moments of the icons working with the students, saying on X, “Man at work. With the very talented students at LIPA. What an amazing school. The world needs more of them.”
While there has been no word as to whether McCartney is looking to work with Springsteen on anything at the moment, he has always been extremely complimentary of his music. Outside of being one of the biggest American artists of his time, McCartney commended ‘The Boss’ for capturing the American spirit in his music when he presented him with an Ivor Novello award in 2024.
Springsteen even gave a small tribute to McCartney’s former band on June 4th, when he played a version of ‘Twist and Shout’ during his encore. As ‘The Boss’ finds downtime between stops on the tour, he is expected to take the stage again in Liverpool as part of his Land of Hope and Dreams tour.
The tour resumes at Anfield on June 7th, and if McCartney is in Liverpool, perhaps an on-stage reunion could be on the cards. Notably, they paired up when McCartney headlined Glastonbury in 2022 and also shared the stage at Hyde Park in 2012, when the two musical legends were cut off due to curfew restrictions.
