Paramount cancels plans for ‘Ferris Bueller’s Day Off’ spin-off

Paramount has reportedly cancelled plans for a Ferris Bueller’s Day Off spin-off movie.

In 2024, before David Ellison’s Skydance Media completed its merger with Paramount this summer, the spin-off was reportedly greenlit at the studio.

David Katzenberg was rumoured to direct the film, which had the working title of Sam and Victor’s Day Off.

It was said to have been set across one day, with Sam and Victor borrowing the Ferrari that belonged to Cameron Frye, played by Alan Ruck, in the original 1986 movie.

However, now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Victor and Sam’s Day Off will no longer be going ahead at Paramount.

Additionally, another movie that has reportedly been scrapped by the Ellison regime is Winter Games, which was set to star Miles Teller, whose latest movie, Eternity, is out now.

Colin Trevorrow, the filmmaker behind the Jurassic World franchise, was also set to direct a sci-fi blockbuster about Area 51, which Ryan Reynolds was on board to produce, that The Hollywood Reporter states has been scrapped.

News of the films being scrapped at Paramount comes after it recently greenlit plans to make Rush Hour 4 following alleged pressure from President Donald Trump, who signed off on the merger between Paramount and Skydance.

The original director, Brett Ratner, who has been accused of numerous instances of sexual assault and has not been active in Hollywood for many years, is reportedly set to return to direct.

Notably, Ratner’s current project is a documentary about Melania Trump for Amazon MGM Studios, owned by Jeff Bezos, which is set to arrive in cinemas on January 30th, 2026.
