The last 12 months of cinema have all been leading up to tonight as the biggest stars from the world of movies descend upon Los Angeles with the hopes of leaving the Oscars as the owner of an Academy Award.
However, before the official ceremony gets underway, it’s time for the pre-show and red carpet which always delivers talking points. Stars are already arriving and making sure to get in their seats at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles with plenty of time to spare.
Despite several hours to go before the start of the Oscars, the event is already trending across the world after months of speculation. To keep you occupied until it gets underway, Far Out is on hand with our pre-show live blog, delivering updates from Los Angeles and looking ahead to the main event.
Time for the main event!
Thanks for joining Far Out here for the red carpet coverage as the biggest Hollywood stars have rocked into the Dolby Theatre. Now, it’s time to switch over to our coverage of the main event which is set to get underway in less than 45 minutes.

Timothée Chalamet arrives in style
Timothée Chalamet is looking to win the first Oscar of his career tonight. He is nominated for his portrayal of musical legend Bob Dylan in A Complete Unknown in the ‘Best Leading Actor’ category. Considering the relationship between biopics and the Academy Awards, it’s fair to assume he has a strong chance of success.

‘Wicked’ star Cynthia Erivo arrives
Upon making her arrival at the Oscars, Cynthia Erivo was given the rockstar treatment and was the beneficiary of one of the loudest receptions of the night. In addition to being nominated for ‘Best Leading Actress’, Erivo is also set to take to the stage for a special performance.
Other notable performers include her Wicked co-star and fellow Oscars nominee Ariana Grande as well as Doja Cat.

Denis Villeneuve is in the building
Dune: Part Two is among the nominees for ‘Best Picture’, but admittedly, despite its commercial and critical success, it’s seen as a rank outsider compared to movies such as Conclave and The Brutalist.
Nevertheless, despite the perceived slim chances of the movie taking home the biggest prize of the night, director Denis Villeneuve is ready and waiting to accept the Oscar for ‘Best Picture’.

Fernanda Torres is ready to make history
Following her performance in I’m Still Here, Fernanda Torres has already made Brazil proud by securing a nomination for ‘Best Leading Actress’.
She is only the second Brazilian actor to be nominated for ‘Best Actress’ at the Academy Awards. To make the moment even more historic, the first actor to earn the distinction was Torres’s mother, Fernanda Montenegro, for her role in the 1998 film Central Station.
Whether she wins tonight remains to be seen, but the whole of Brazil is backing Torres to bring the Oscar home to South America.

Oscar-nominee Ariana Grande arrives
Wicked has a total of ten nominations at the Oscars, including Ariana Grande for ‘Best Supporting Actor’. Although she’s up against strong competition, Grande is among the favourites to take the prize, and she’s now arrived at the ceremony in a hopeful mood.
In a new social media post, Grande said earlier today: “Grateful beyond words for this honor and to be a part of this moment The Academy,” she began, before adding, “This has been such an unimaginably beautiful time.”

‘Conclave’ director Edward Berger is here at the Oscars
Director Edward Berger has a storied history with the Academy Awards. In 2023, his motion picture, All Quiet on the Western Front, was awarded the Oscar for ‘Best International Film’. But tonight, he’ll be looking to win more than one Academy Award.
In total, Conclave, which swept up at the Baftas, is nominated in eight categories, including ‘Best Picture’, ‘Best Lead Actor’ and ‘Best Supporting Actress’.

Rachel Sennott is in the building
Rachel Sennott, who recently starred in Saturday Night, is the latest big name to make her way to the Dolby Theatre for the Oscars. The actor and comedian previously hosted the nominations ceremony alongside Saturday Night Live’s Bowen Yang in January.

Joe Alwyn makes his arrival at the Oscars
British actor Joe Alwyn has made his arrival at the Oscars. Although he’s not nominated for an individual award tonight, he did play a significant part in The Brutalist which is expected to win several Oscars.
Notably, Alwyn’s co-stars Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones are nominated for ‘Best Lead Actor’ and ‘Best Lead Actress’, respectively. It’s also shortlisted for ‘Best Picture’.

‘Conclave’ writer Peter Straughan shows support for Ukraine
Following the very public argument that took place between Ukraine’s Prime Minister, Volodymyr Zelensky, and President Donald Trump, Conclave writer Peter Straughan has shown solidarity with the people of Ukraine by wearing a pin on his suit for the Oscars.
Speaking to Variety, he explained, “Both of them are to say, ‘Let’s not turn our backs on Ukraine’. That’s all that means.”
Straughan also stated that he believes there’s a “danger” that people are turning their backs on Ukraine, but does think peace is achievable.
A second chicken-related talk show host has arrived
Following the arrival of Chicken Shop Date’s Amelia Dimoldenberg earlier tonight, her fellow chicken-related YouTube talk show host, Sean Evans of Hot Ones fame, has now turned up in the building.
Despite their attendance, I highly doubt that Hollywood stars will be treated to fried chicken or hot wings on the menu tonight.

Brady Corbet is here
The Brutalist has a total of ten nominations tonight at the Oscars which could see Brady Corbet win ‘Best Director’ and his movie win ‘Best Picture’. The film was a labour of love for Corbet who spent years working on his masterpiece and pulling the project together.
If he wins tonight, all the sleepless nights and work that he’s put into it will have been worth it. It’s already been an awards season to remember for Corbet, but this would be the cherry on top of the cake.
Jeff Goldblum arrives
Jeff Goldblum has a reputation as one of the most stylish figures in Hollywood and always carries himself with an air of class. Unsurprisingly, he looked a million dollars on the red carpet tonight at the Oscars as he arrived alongside his wife Emilie Livingston.
Although Goldblum is an esteemed actor, he has never won an Academy Award nor is he nominated tonight, but he’s not missing out on the party of the year.

Harrison Ford no longer set to present Oscar for health reasons
According to Entertainment Weekly, Harrison Ford will no longer present an Academy Award tonight for health reasons after he was diagnosed with shingles. Ford is yet to directly comment on the reports.
Other presenters set to grace the stage tonight include Halle Berry, Penélope Cruz, Robert Downey Jr., Elle Fanning, Whoopi Goldberg, Scarlett Johansson, John Lithgow, Cillian Murphy, Amy Poehler, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, June Squibb, Emma Stone, and Bowen Yang.

Red carpet host Amelia Dimoldenberg arrives at the Oscars
For the second year in a row, British comedian and internet personality Amelia Dimoldenberg is the social media ambassador and red-carpet correspondent for the Oscars. Therefore, it’s only right that she’s the first to arrive.
The Academy’s Chief Marketing and Communications officer, Jennifer Davidson, previously stated of Dimoldenberg’s involvement, “We are thrilled to welcome back Amelia as our social media ambassador and red carpet correspondent to provide viewers with exclusive access to the Oscars.”
Davidson added: “Amelia’s widespread appeal and unique approach resonated with global audiences, and we are looking forward to her affable and engaging perspective on the Oscars experience.”
Ariana Grande looks ahead to Oscars
Tonight could be Ariana Grande’s crowning moment in the cinematic world. She’s already conquered music, and while acting has always been in her life, her role in Wicked has been celebrated on a different scale than any of her previous movies.
Significantly, Grande is nominated in the ‘Best Supporting Actress’ category thanks to her performance. Now, in a new social media post, Grande said: “Grateful beyond words for this honor and to be a part of this moment The Academy,” she began, before adding, “This has been such an unimaginably beautiful time.”

Conan O’Brien is ready to report for duty
Remarkably, tonight will mark the first time that Conan O’Brien has hosted the Oscars despite being a seemingly perfect fit for the role. In an update with fans on X, he’s shared a hilarious pre-match image from his dressing room which captures him playing the acoustic guitar and smoking a pipe.
All of the eyes in Hollywood and beyond will be on Conan tonight, but by the looks of it, he’s calm and relaxed ahead of the occasion.
When does the Oscars red carpet coverage start and who is hosting it?
Although stars from the world are already beginning to descend upon the Dolby Theatre to receive their luxurious free gifts courtesy of the Academy Awards and fraternise with their fellow celebrities, it won’t be shown on television until 11:30pm ET and 3:30pm PST.
ABC will be taking care of the broadcast as well as showing the live event once the red carpet coverage has concluded. Hosting duties will be provided by Julianne Hough and Jesse Palmer.
