Oscars 2025: Adrien Brody makes history with longest ever acceptance speech

The records just kept on reeling in for Adrien Brody last night after his ‘Best Actor’ win at the Oscars 2025, as he gave the longest ever acceptance speech in the awards’ history.

Taking home the prize for his lead role in The Brutalist, Brody’s warbling speech clocked in at a mighty five minutes and 40 seconds, naturally thanking his castmates and crew on the film before calling out antisemitism and speaking of his wish for a more peaceful world.

Ironically opening his speech with the words, “They’re already counting me down”, Brody threw caution to the wind when it came to the usual time limits and, almost five minutes in when a musical interlude kicked in to try and usher him offstage, he pleaded: “Please turn the music off. I will wrap up. I’ve done this before, thank you.”

Of course, Brody’s less-than-subtle hint refers to his 2003 Oscar win for ‘Best Actor’ for The Pianist.

In doing so, both his prized turns set their own piece of history – firstly, as Brody being the youngest recipient of the ‘Best Actor’ award when he initially picked it up 22 years ago at the age of 29, and secondly in his latest scoop, which makes him the first ever actor to take home the award in both his Oscar nominations.

Elsewhere in his speech, he professed that: “One thing I have gained and am privileged to come back here, is to have some perspective. No matter where you are in your career, it can all go away. What makes this night special is to witness the now. Winning an award like this signifies a destination to me.”

It was a successful night for The Brutalist, taking home three awards out of its ten nominations. Apart from Brody’s ‘Best Actor’ win, it also scored ‘Best Original Score’ for its composer Daniel Blumberg and ‘Best Cinematography’.
