Oscars 2024: Academy Awards reveal nominees for ‘Best Actor’
Ahead of the 96th Oscars Ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on March 10th, the Academy Awards committee has revealed the nominees for the ‘Best Actor’ category.
The ceremony took place at Academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre in Beverly Hills, California, and was hosted by actors Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid, famed for Joker and The Boys, respectively. The pair announced the nominations for all 23 categories, including ‘Best Actor’, one of the Academy’s most coveted awards.
Bradley Cooper has received a nomination for his portrayal of famed composer Leonard Bernstein in Maestro, and the nod could land him his first Oscar after several previous nominations. Colman Domingo has also been nominated for the first time in recognition of his role in the Netflix movie Rustin, where he played the civil rights activist Bayard Rustin.
Paul Giamatti could secure his first Academy Award for his efforts in The Holdovers. Additionally, Cillian Murphy is nominated for Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, and Jeffrey Wright is up for ‘Best Actor’ thanks to his work in American Fiction.
Last week, Maestro was snubbed for ‘Best Picture’ at the Baftas before being nominated at the Oscars. Far Out previously said of the film: “It’s hard to understand what Maestro’s intention is, though. To show Bernstein’s brilliance or portray him as a bit of an egotistical asshole that largely neglected his family despite that brilliance? Whatever Cooper’s intention, he seems to have been able to give a surprising insight into the life of one of the most celebrated figures in the music world. As the film’s title suggests, Bernstein could never just be Bernstein but would forever become Maestro, the man with magic at his fingertips.”
Jimmy Kimmel will host the show for the fourth time, which follows his third stint last year at the 95th Oscars Ceremony. The comic also presented the ceremony in 2017 and 2018, and commented on returning for 2024: “I always dreamed of hosting the Oscars exactly four times.”
Oscars 2024: ‘Best Actor’ nominees:
