Oscars 2024: Academy Awards reveal ‘Best Picture’ nominees
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has revealed the nominees for the highly-coveted ‘Best Picture’ Oscars award. The latest set of films shortlisted follows last year, when the likes of The Banshees of Inisherin, The Fabelmans and Triangle of Sadness got the nod.
However, they were all pipped to the post by Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert’s Everything Everywhere All At Once, which won a remarkable further six Oscars, including ‘Best Actress’ for Michelle Yeoh and ‘Best Original Screenplay’.
This year’s contest looks to be equally as fierce and sees some heavyweight films come up against one another. Unsurprisingly, Christopher Nolan’s biopic Oppenheimer, starring Cillian Murphy and Robert Downey Jr is hotly tipped and finds its way onto the shortlist.
It will come up against Greta Gerwig’s fantasy comedy-drama Barbie, starring Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie and the well-acclaimed American Fiction. Justine Triet’s Anatomy of a Fall represents France, while Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest is the entry from the United Kingdom.
Elsewhere, there was recognition for Martin Scorsese and his Osage murders film Killers of the Flower Moon starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro. Bradley Cooper continued his journey as a director with Maestro, which also makes the list.
The nominees are rounded off by The Holdovers, Yorgos Lanthimos’ Poor Things starring Mark Ruffalo, Emma Stone and Willem Dafoe, and Celine Song’s impressive directorial debut, Past Lives.
Actors Zazie Beetz and Jack Quaid revealed the nominations at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on NBC’s Good Morning America.
The Oscars awards ceremony will be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, who has hosted the evening on three occasions. The Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 10th, at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood.
