Today’s Oscar nominations come as a refreshing respite from the usual current of bad news that we have become accustomed to from the COVID-19 hit cinema industry.
Within the reduced shortlist for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ are some very worthy nominations, all of which celebrate the great cinema that creative talents have still been able to produce.
Judas and the Black Messiah sees two actors up for nominations with both Daniel Kaluuya and Lakeith Stanfield both getting a nod. The film also appears amongst the Best Picture nominees and is hotly tipped to scoop some of the big awards.
Sacha Baron Cohen also receives a nomination for his work as Abbie Hoffman in The Trial of the Chicago 7, which is another feature up for Best Picture.
Paul Raci also received a nomination for Sound of Metal, with Riz Ahmed also up for an award for his lead role in the heavy metal drumming drama.
The other nominee on the rather slim shortlist is Leslie Odom Jr. for his performance in One Night in Miami. His role portraying music legend Sam Cooke was met with unanimous critical appraisal upon the movie’s release.
The 93rd Oscars Awards ceremony is set to go ahead on the 26th of April. You can follow all of our continuing coverage here.
