Laura Dern has claimed victory in the category of Best Supporting Actress for her role in Noah Baumbach film Marriage Story.
Dern has defeated tough competition from the likes of Kathy Bates, Scarlett Johansson, Florence Pugh and Margot Robbie to win her first Oscar at the third time of asking.
The film, which stars Scarlett Johansson and Adam Driver in the lead roles, tells the story of a married couple going through a difficult and emotionally tormenting divorce. “A stage director and his actor wife struggle through a gruelling, coast-to-coast divorce that pushes them to their personal and creative extremes,” the film’s synopsis reads.
Dern, who was previously nominated for an Academy Award for her work on both Rambling Rose and Wild, took to the stage to thank her fellow nominees, production company and streaming service Netflix, as well as the cast, director and more.
