The only Tom Cruise movie Oasis don’t hate with a passion: “He’s a little fucker”

When Tom Cruise attended one of the Oasis reunion gigs in July 2025, he was either letting bygones be bygones or revealing that he was completely oblivious to the fact that the band had gone on record, being captured on camera, calling him a “bastard”.

How does someone like Cruise, who’s been so famous and so rich for so long that he probably can’t remember what it’s like to live an even remotely normal life, even become aware of one of Britain’s biggest and most iconic acts of the last three decades slating his entire career? More importantly, if he did know that they hated his whole filmography, would he even care?

Everyone is aware that the Mission: Impossible and Top Gun figurehead is obsessed with cinema, but he rarely divulges his musical tastes. That’s probably not a surprise when it feels like he doesn’t talk about anything apart from movies, making movies, how much he loves movies, why you should be watching movies, and how you can’t enjoy a movie unless you watch it on the big screen with a big fuck-off bucket of popcorn.

Plenty of big names were snapped in the crowd when Noel and Liam Gallagher put their issues to bed in favour of a gigantic pile of money in the summer, but still, one of Hollywood’s biggest stars being photographed having the time of his life alongside Goldie, of all people, was nothing if not random.

Being Tom Cruise, he wouldn’t have had to pull too many strings to snag a backstage pass, which might have been a supremely awkward situation. After all, in the 2007 documentary, Don’t Slow Me Down, he isn’t spoken of too highly, with Noel declaring that “he’s a little fucker, and he’s not been in one good film in his entire career.”

Adding insult to injury, Liam then lumped him in with another random name on their shit-list: “I hate Tom Cruise,” he contributed to the conversation. “Bastard. Him and Michael Owen.” One of cinema’s staunchest and most vocal defenders and the most boring man in football, who claims to have only seen eight movies in his entire life, don’t have anything else in common apart from the fact that Oasis hate them both.

However, there is an exception. Making their unprovoked animosity towards the eternal A-lister even more bizarre, for whatever reason, the band seem to be in agreement that Cocktail gets a pass. Yes, Cocktail, the risible romantic dramedy that, despite its box office success, won the Razzie for ‘Worst Picture’ and endures almost 40 years later as the worst thing Cruise has ever starred in.

Almost immediately after Noel brands him a “midget” and they crap all over his extensive list of credits, somebody brings up director Roger Donaldson’s slab of brainless fluff, which inexplicably forces Liam to concede that “Cocktail is great,” even though it most definitely is not.

Whether that stance has softened in the last two decades remains up for debate, but bizarrely, Cruise’s worst-ever movie is the only one that Oasis are willing to give the time of day.
