Nova Twins’ Amy Love speaks out to support refugees: “Stand against racism and fascism”

Amy Love, the singer of rock band Nova Twins, has voiced her support for the troubles being faced by refugees in the UK, imploring her audience to “Stand against racism and fascism.”

The musician took to social media on September 8th to share a statement titled ‘Love Over Hate’, which was captioned with the line: “Lead with love not anger, lead with compassion not fear, and stand against racism and fascism”.

In the lengthy statement, Love deplored the current culture of flag-raising and anti-immigration protests taking place across the UK, especially since a number of violent spates have occurred outside hotels where asylum seekers are being housed in recent weeks.

She said: “Whatever you think your ‘worst nightmare’ is, it’s nothing compared to what these families seeking refuge have lived through. Ask yourself this, if it were you, how far would you go to protect your loved ones and get them to safety?”

Love, who is of mixed Iranian and Nigerian descent, went on to explain the reality of the UK’s immigration statistics by noting: “Refugees make up less than one per cent in the UK. They are not the reason you’re struggling to pay your energy bills, feed your children, get an NHS appointment, find stable work, afford tuition fees, buy a home, or keep your business afloat.”

She then implored her followers to direct their anger towards “billionaires and corporations, not at people fleeing violence and persecution”, adding, “My Iranian mother who came to this country for similar reasons taught me to lead with compassion and love. I couldn’t be prouder to be her daughter.”

Nova Twins released their most recent album, Parasites & Butterflies, on August 29th, and are shortly set to commence a UK and European tour, beginning on September 17th in Utrecht, Netherlands.
