‘Night at the Museum’ reboot set to be made
A reboot of the 2006 classic film Night at the Museum is in the works at 20th Century Studios.
As reported by Deadline, the reboot will shine a light on a whole new host of characters and a new plot to entertain fans old and new. One returning factor is Shawn Levy, who will produce through his 21 Laps company alongside friend Dan Levine. Levy directed three of the four existing films in the fictional universe.
Though details of the plot remain under tight lock and key, Tripper Clancy will perform script-writing duties for the reboot. Clancy’s previous works include the Netflix show I Am Not Okay With This, as well as the action comedy Stuber.
There has already been three sequels since the first movie was released. In 2009, the franchise added Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian to the fiction world. Half a decade later came the 2014 movie Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb and finally in 2022 came Night at the Museum: Kahmunrah Rises Again.
In the original movie, Ben Stiller stars as a night guard at the American Museum of Natural History in New York. Quickly, he discovers that an ancient Egyptian curse brings the museum’s exhibits to life. Owen Wilson stars alongside him as Jedediah, a miniature cowboy figure.
It is unclear whether Wilson and Stiller will return to the franchise or whether the new series will offer a story completely untethered from the original characters. Speaking of working with Wilson in the series, Stiller has previously said, “Owen always makes me laugh. I love working with him because I’ve always been a fan, so it’s great to have him in the film. I really do think he’s one of the funniest guys I know. There is something fascinating about his sensibilities and the way his mind works.”
