When Nicolas Cage bought a two-headed snake after a bizarre dream

Throughout his career in the spotlight, Nicolas Cage has proven himself to be one of the most enduring and fascinating figures in the American film industry. Known for his intense dramatic performances on screen and portrayals of genuinely over-the-top nature, Cage is simply one of Hollywood’s greatest heroes, a testament to the crazy city in his own right.

With phenomenal efforts in the likes of Moonstruck, Leaving Las Vegas, Face/Off, Raising Arizona and Mandy, Cage possesses a talent for truly embodying his character’s most mentally unstable sides, and he’s persistently proven himself to be a genuinely unpredictable force of cinema.

There are also countless stories that surround the personal life of Cage that depict him as perhaps the singular most enigmatic person in Hollywood. There’s a myth surrounding him buying an octopus, while another confirmed that the actor owns a crow that he taught to insult him. Perhaps the best of all, though, is that Cage once bought a two-headed snake after he was urged through an intense dream.

“Why, I don’t know, I was dreaming about two-headed eagles,” Cage once told Jimmy Kimmel when appearing on his talk show. “And one night I had this dream, and then the next day, my manager at the time got a phone call saying, ‘Oh, wow, I’ve got a two-headed snake that I found in Northridge, and I think your client, Nic Cage, might be interested.'”

“I won’t mention how much it cost because that’s going to go everywhere,” he added. While Cage was reticent in revealing just how much cash he’d dispensed with in buying the snake, he’d previously given clues that helped his fan tot up the serpentine cost. The actor had noted that he’d given away $20,000 that he’d won gambling to an orphanage.

That facet of information allowed Kimmel to step in and prompt Cage’s knowledge of the snake’s cost. “More than the orphanage got, or less?” Kimmel asked, to which Cage replied, “More. It was like four times the amount.” That would mean that the iconic actor dispensed with around $80,000 for a two-headed snake, a truly brilliant story which almost defies belief.

However, Cage was not actually able to keep hold of the snake for very long because, by the time he got it home and lived with it for a short while, he realised the difficulties of co-habiting with such a creature, especially when it came time to feed it. “I would have to put a spatula between the two heads to feed them, and it just got a little too freaky for me,” Cage said before admitting that the snake was eventually sent packing to a local zoo.
