Nicolas Cage is set to star in the martial arts actioner Jiu Jitsu taken from the comic book of the same name.

The film will be made by the writer, director and producer Dimitri Logothetis who also created the aforementioned comic book alongside Jim McGrath.

Logothetis, who enjoyed great success when he wrote and produced Kickboxer: Vengeance starring Jean-Claude Van Damme, is aiming to take the same high octane action in a new direction.

The feature, which will also star Alain Moussi as a Jiu Jitsu fighter must fight off an alien invasion ever six years, will see Cage’s character and his team of Jiu Jitsu fighters join forces alongside Moussi’s character.

“After we successfully reintroduced the Kickboxer franchise to a new generation of martial arts fans with the sixth and seventh entries in the series, we set out to up the ante with a sci-fi martial arts franchise that could bring the same kind of intensity and longevity to a new arena,” Logothetis said of the project in a statement.

The film will be produced by Logothetis and Martin Barab and it is reported that the Highland Film Group will be handling worldwide sales.
