Nicolas Cage reveals plans to retire: “I may have three or four more movies left in me”

Hollywood icon Nicolas Cage has announced plans to retire in the near future after making “three or four more movies”.

While Cage, who recently starred in Dream Scenario, hasn’t fallen out of love with the craft of acting, his priorities lay elsewhere. The movie star, who will turn 60 in January, plans to spend more time with his family and away from film sets.

In a new interview with Vanity Fair, Cage revealed: “I may have three or four more movies left in me. I do feel I’ve said what I’ve had to say with cinema. I think I took film performance as far as I could … I do want to get much more severe and stringent in my selection process … I want to say bye on a high note.”

The actor also poignantly explained how his father died at 75, which has made him think about his own mortality and that he may only have 15 years left. He said: “What do I want to do with those 15 years, using my father as the model?”

Cage added: “It occurred very clearly to me that I want to spend time with my family … I’m starting to cement my plan.”

His latest comments follow similar recent remarks he made to Entertainment Tonight: “So 60 is coming up. I’d like to read a book a week. I want to spend more time with my daughter. I’m taking stock of what’s really important. Maybe not make quite as many movies.”

In a four-star review of Cage’s latest movie, Dream Scenario, Far Out wrote: “The opening half of Borgli’s film is brimming with excellent comedy, flawlessly performed by Cage in this vital role of being the most average man in the world, a far cry from his usual efforts.”

“Though the deeper meaning and symbolism are perhaps glossed over a touch too quickly, they are not without their merit and make Dream Scenario one of the more exciting and unique takes on the black comedy genre of the last decade or so,” the review concluded.
