New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert recovering after having three brain tumours removed
Chad Gilbert, guitarist with the American rock band New Found Glory, is recovering following surgery to remove three brain tumours.
Gilbert, who co-founded the hugely successful group in 1997, has had many health struggles in recent years.
He first underwent emergency surgery in 2021 after being diagnosed with metastatic pheochromocytoma, which is a rare form of adrenal gland cancer.
After the initial surgery in 2021 was a success, Gilbert returned for treatment shortly afterwards, after a tumour was found on his spine. Then, in 2025, the guitarist revealed that he had recently undergone radiation treatment after a cancerous spot was discovered on his back.
Now, in a new health update, Gilbert has told fans on Instagram, “On February 20th, I played a show in Nashville and was struggling to control the movements of my left hand.”
The guitarist continued, “My left leg was getting weaker by the day and I started stumbling and falling at times. On the 23rd I was taken to the ER where a CT scan showed 3 new tumors had appeared in my brain.”
The surgery, which took place on February 27th, has been successful, and Gilbert has been recovering in the hospital in the weeks since the operation.
He then quoted his radiation oncologist who told him that “this is not a fatal blow and not the end of your story, just the beginning of a new chapter”, before adding of his recovery journey so far, “My recovery has been bumpy at times but I’m feeling much better now and getting stronger by the day.”
Gilbert went on to thank everybody who has “checked in on me and helped my family during this lengthy and challenging journey”, promising his fans that “more stories to come when my brain is working well again”.
His poignant message concluded, “Love you all and am looking forward to sharing more music and fun with you as we come out of this.”
