Neil Young pays tribute to late ex-wife Pegi Young
Neil Young has paid tribute to Pegi Young, his former wife who recently passed away.
It was confirmed that Young passed away on January 1st following a year-long battle with cancer at the age of 66. “With great sadness, we confirm that on January 1st, after a yearlong battle with cancer, Pegi Young – mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, musician, activist and co-founder of the Bridge School – passed away surrounded by her friends and family in her native California,” the statement read.
Young, who once sang as a backing singer on Neil Young’s tours, eventually released her debut solo record in 2007. However, it is her work with the ‘ Bridge School’ that will arguably her lasting legacy. Inspired by her son Ben who was born with cerebral palsy, she and Neil Young founded the institution in 1986 in order to offer much-needed help to children with physical and speech impairments.
Now, Neil Young has paid tribute to his former wife via his official website. In a post that was entitled ‘Such A Woman: Pegi Young 1952-2019’, Neil Young quotes lyrics from his song ‘Such A Woman’ which was inspired by Pegi.
Ending the post, Neil writes: “Thanks Pegi, for being such a wonderful mother to our children. You live inside of them and the many you have touched.”
