Neil Young doubles down on Amazon boycott and gifts full discography to Greenland
In his continuing action against the US government, Neil Young has doubled down on his boycott of Amazon and also now gifted his entire back catalogue to Greenland.
Young first announced his boycott of Amazon in October, owing to the fact that its CEO, Jeff Bezos, is a supporter of US president Donald Trump.
Subsequently, as part of Trump’s incessant bid to acquire Greenland, Young has also now allowed people in the country to have access to his complete archives for an entire year, with no cost attached.
He announced the news in a new blog post via his website on January 27th, where he said: “I’m honoured to give a free year’s access to neilyoungarchives.com to all of our friends in Greenland. I hope my music and music films will ease some of the unwarranted stress and threats you are experiencing from our unpopular and hopefully temporary government.”
Young continued: “It is my sincere wish for you to be able to enjoy all of my music in your beautiful Greenland home, in its highest quality. This is an offer of Peace and Love. All the music I have made during the last 62 years is yours to hear.”
It comes after the musician previously published a separate blog post last week, in which he doubled down on his commitment to boycotting Amazon so long as Trump and Bezos are in power at their respective institutions.
“The president’s international policies and his support of ICE, make it impossible for me to ignore his actions,” Young said at the time. “If you feel as I do, I strongly recommend that you do not use Amazon.”
He added: “My music will never be available on Amazon, as long as it is owned by Bezos. My position is unfortunately harmful to my record company in the short term but I think the message I am sending is important and clear.”
Young’s ongoing criticism of the president has again ignited over recent weeks, after the killings of a number of civilians in Minnesota by ICE agents. After the death of Renee Good, he published another essay on his website in which he urged Americans to “rise up” and let their dissent be heard.
