The body of Naya Rivera, the actress best known for her role in Glee, has been recovered in Lake Piru California on Monday.
According to reports in TMZ, the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department discovered the body in the early morning hours of Monday morning.
The body has since been identified as Rivera’s and marks the end of a search which began after her four-year-old son was found floating alone, sleeping in a rented boat in Lake Piru on Thursday, July 9th.
It is believed that the 33-year-old actress, best known for playing cheerleader Santana Lopez in Glee, was a tragic accident after her son told authorities that he and his mother had been out for the day swimming. The child, Josey, was wearing a lifejacket, Rivera was not. Josey is said to have told investigators that his mother was swimming and could not make it back to the boat.
While Rivera’s parents, brother, ex-husband Ryan Dorsey and Glee co-star Heather Morris all helped with the search, the sheriff’s office recruited a private contractor to assist with the search. Using sonar equipment, the divers discovered the body after a gruelling and difficult search.
For her role in Glee, Rivera earned various nominations for a number of different awards in what was a critically acclaimed performance. Following her success, Rivera was later signed to Columbia Records as a solo musician and went to release her ‘Sorry’ in collaboration with rapper Big Sean.
Tragically, Rivera’s body was found on the seventh anniversary of Glee co-star Cory Monteith’s death in 2013.
