Natalie Portman addresses rumours she’s returning to Star Wars for ‘Episode IX’
Natalie Portman has poured cold water on the rumours linking her with a return to Star Wars.
Portman, who last appeared in Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005) in her role as Padmé Amidala, has been linked to rumours of her making a return for the upcoming film.
George Lucas, Rick McCallum, and casting director Robin Gurland auditioned over 200 actresses for the part of Padmé Amidala before they settled for the then 16-year-old Natalie Portman. “I was looking for someone who was young, strong, along the lines of Leia. Natalie embodied all those traits and more,” Lucas previously stated.
Abrams is getting back behind the director’s chair for Episode IX, the ninth and final instalment of the Skywalker saga and, rumours have circulated that Portman could return.
Despite some excitement, Portman seemed totally unaware of the links: “Oh really? I don’t know anything about that,” she answered in an interview with Buzzfeed News when asked about the rumours.
She added: “I’m guessing that’s not true because I don’t know about it yet.”
