‘Mr Nobody Against Putin’ director’s Oscar has been lost by Lufthansa

Pavel Talankin, the co-director of Mr Nobody Against Putin, has lost his Oscar thanks to an airline.

Talankin won the Academy Award earlier this year for the documentary, which consists of footage that he collated while working at a school in Russia, documenting the rise in Russian propaganda at schools following the illegal invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Taking to Instagram on April 30th, his co-director, David Borenstein, issued a plea for help and called for Lufthansa to track down the missing Oscar.

Borenstein shared, “Yesterday he arrived at JFK ready to fly home to Europe, carrying the Oscar as a carry-on. I snapped the first picture here of him on his way out.”

He continued, “At the airport, a TSA agent stopped him and said the Oscar could be used as a weapon. She wouldn’t let him carry it on board. Our EP Robin got on the phone and tried to reason with her. It didn’t work.”

As Talankin didn’t have a check-in bag to store the Oscar, “the TSA put the Oscar in a box and sent it to the bottom of the plan,” which Borenstein shared an image of on his social media.

Sadly, for Talankin, once he landed in Frankfurt, his Oscar didn’t arrive, which led to him issuing a lost baggage claim, but as it stands, the prestigious award is still yet to show up.

The post from Borenstein has attracted the attention of Lufthansa, though. They wrote in the comments that they are taking the matter “super serious”, before adding, “Our team is ready to help track down the missing parcel and get it back where it belongs. We’re committed to make it happen.”

The German airline continued, “We will do everything we can to find the Oscar as fast as possible and have already escalated this.”

Let’s all hope that Talankin is reunited with his Oscar in no time.
