The movie Daniel Craig tried to delete from history: “I’d throw it under the counter”
Daniel Craig might have found acclaim in movies like Sylvia and Layer Cake in the early 2000s, but it was his role as James Bond that really sealed the deal for the actor.
Becoming an icon of the silver screen, Craig led several highly beloved entries in the 007 franchise, like Casino Royale, before making his final appearance as the character in 2021’s No Time to Die. The actor has since emerged from his role as Bond with major parts in films like the Knives Out series and Luca Guadagnino’s Queer, the latter of which earned him a Golden Globe nomination, proving that Craig is so much more than just a 007 agent.
Craig has had quite the successful career, then, with his earnings and acclaim off the back of James Bond, enough for the actor to retire right now if he wanted to. The actor isn’t interested in stopping anytime soon, though, continuing to open himself up to daring scripts such as Queer as a chance to flex his creative muscles.
In spite of all of Craig’s award wins and celebrity status, the actor still has some slight regrets. Most actors do. However, Craig went as far as trying to hide copies of a certain movie from potential customers at his local Blockbuster, doing all that he could to prevent people from viewing a film he considered one of his worst.
Ever the gentleman, Craig refused to name which film exactly had him scrambling to hide physical copies, but that only makes it all the more fun to guess. Talking to The Guardian, Craig revealed, “I don’t want to say which movie, because that’s not fair. I used to walk into Blockbuster – which shows you how old it is – and it would be on the shelves, maybe even not the DVD but the VHS.”
Adding, “I’d grab it and throw it under the counter. I know it was only a small protest – it was only my Blockbuster – but it was some way of my never seeing that movie again.”
So, if we look back to the early days of Craig’s career, way before he was a sex symbol, there’s one movie that sticks out as an obvious stinker. He must be referring to A Kid in King Arthur’s Court, a Disney-produced fantasy adventure film with the tagline ‘Joust do it’.
Directed by Michael Gottlieb, the movie sees a sports-loving teenager from ‘90s America accidentally time-travel back to the days of King Arthur, where the teen develops a crush on one of the princesses. It was torn to shreds by critics, although luckily Craig’s part as Master Kane wasn’t that big. Still, if this is the movie he is referring to, then there’s no surprise that he wants to keep it hidden. It even featured Kate Winslet, who surely wants to forget the movie, too.
With that being said, though, Craig doesn’t dwell on the past too much. “I’ve never really desperately regretted anything. I think once you commit to something, you go: this is it, it is what it is, good or bad,” he concluded.
