Mötley Crüe’s Vince Neil made a bizarre follow-up to Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson’s sex tape
Not all vacations are quite as fruitful as Tommy Lee and Pamela Anderson’s honeymoon. A romantic boat trip with an opportune camcorder is riveted onto the psyche of pop culture. So much so that almost 30 years after their ill-fated first marital trip in 1995, it’s still spawning TV series.
As the story goes, the couple were just embracing the possibilities of their matrimony adventure. “We weren’t trying to make a porno, just to document our vacation,” Lee later said. But sadly, the boat trip footage from Lake Mead was later acquired by a third party, sold, and uploaded to the internet. It quickly became a sensation.
However, while most people were patting Lee on the back and saying that they were sorry to hear about the unfortunate situation the couple found themselves in, no doubt adding that they personally hadn’t seen the footage and would never search it out, his Mötley Crüe bandmate, Vince Neil, seemingly saw it as some form of competition. Neil set about making his own sex tape in response.
Neil had once dated Anderson himself, and whether that somehow entered his thinking was unclear. Nevertheless, in 1997, he contacted someone he thought might be up for the task: Janine Lindemulder. You may recognise Lindemulder from the album cover for Blink-182’s Enema of the State or any one-hand literature you may have seen the adult star in back in the 1990s.
Their actions emerged a little further down the line in a video titled Janine & Vince: Hardcore & Uncensored. According to IMDb, they both star as themselves and no plot is listed. Likewise, the whys and wherefores behind Neil’s motives are also somewhat of a mystery. It would seem that Mötley Crüe are simply a band who can’t help but court controversy.
They also seemingly can’t help but embroil themselves in damning competitiveness. One night, while touring with Ozzy Osbourne and his band, the group of intoxicated fellows got involved in a “gross out”, which resulted in Ozzy snorting a line of ants. This is both unsustainable and damaging, and Mötley Crüe tried to live it for too long.
However, Neil has recently denied that these warring ways have resulted in yet another feud between him and Lee. “There is no tension between me and Tommy. Don’t believe anything from these so-called gossip sites,” he wrote when the rumours were circling along with a touted reunion. “Keep Rocking.”
