Canada’s Montreal has moved to make their commitment to metal music official and adopted a declaration which states that it is now a “city of excellence” for heavy metal music.
City Councillor and major metal fan Craig Sauvé pushed through the declaration
“It’s an immense thrill to be able to talk about this art form that I love so dearly,” Sauvé said after the council unanimously approved the declaration.
The declaration was built on the premise that metal music has been prominent in Montreal for 36 years and built the foundations of the genre which has spread across the world. In his bid to have the bill pushed through, Sauvé referenced bands like Kataklysm, Cryptopsy, Despised Icon, the Agonist and more.
“I’m still an active fan. I listen to a lot of it,” he added.
