Here at Far Out, we pride ourselves on trying to bring you the newest musical nuggets around, showcasing our favourite up and coming artists before they are in a position to bask in the accolades of the masses.
However, every now and again a stalwart of the world of rock ‘n’ roll returns with something that we simply find too hard to resist when it comes to our most prestigious of 24-hourly titles, Track of the Day.
Such is the case today, as Washington indie-rockers Modest Mouse have marked their return in style with their stunning new song ‘Lampshades On Fire’.
The band have broken a hiatus of nearly eight years since the release of their last LP We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank with the announcement that Strangers To Ourselves will drop next year.
They may not be aided on guitar by Smiths legend Johnny Marr as they were last time around, but judging by this first single – which is already available to buy via Epic Records – the album looks set to be of the same high calibre we have come to expect from the now four-piece.
The track is a characteristically swashbuckling piece of indie-rock that takes an almost reggae-like riff and combines it with the angst-ridden lyrics and impassioned vocal delivery that fans have become all too familiar with from frontman Isaac Brock since Modest Mouse burst onto the scene back in the mid-90s.
Fast forward to today, and despite their extended rest, the band remain on top form. Hence why why we can’t wait for Strangers To Ourselves to reach out ears when it is also released on Epic March 5th.
But for now, sit back and enjoy this extra special Track of the Day. Welcome back Modest Mouse.
