Mitski announces new album, ‘Nothing’s About to Happen to Me’

Mitski has announced her eighth studio album, Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, which is slated for a February 27th release. The first single, ‘Where’s My Phone?’, is available now.

The album promises to focus on a strong narrative arc. As per a press release, the project will see “Mitski immersing herself in a rich narrative whose main character is a reclusive woman in an unkempt house. Outside of her home, she is a deviant; inside of her home, she is free.”

The singer-songwriter has written all of the songs on Nothing’s About to Happen to Me, as well as performing all the vocals. It promises to continue the sonic through-line established on her former release, 2023’s The Land is Inhospitable and So Are We.

The album has been produced and engineered by Patrick Hyland and mastered by Bob Weston. The orchestra was recorded at Sunset Sound and TTG Studios, arranged and conducted by Drew Erickson, and engineered by Michael Harris.

Far Out has awarded Mitski the coveted ‘Track of the Week’ award for ‘Where’s My Phone?’. In a four-star review, it was observed: “Presented alongside a perfectly unhinged music video, Mitski seems to have accepted that there’s no easy way for an artist to capture or engage with the modern world without dissolving into a bit of insanity.”

The accompanying music video is based on Shirley Jackson’s gothic novella, We Have Always Lived in the Castle, and puts forward a complex psychological palette as it quickly descends into pandemonium.

Mitski’s first concert film, Mitski: The Land, was played in over 600 cinemas across 30 countries in October 2025.

Mitski is currently working on the music and lyrics for the musical adaptation of the Anya Taylor-Joy-led television series, The Queen’s Gambit.

Her other efforts include collaborative projects, such as two co-writes on the most recent Florence and the Machine album, Everybody Scream. She also worked with David Byrne and Son Lux for the Oscar-nominated ‘This Is A Life’.
