Millie Bobby Brown responds to criticism from tabloids over her image: “My face like, grew”
Strangers Things star Millie Bobby Brown continues to speak out against her unfair portrayal in tabloid media. The actor has also recently made statements against media outlets criticising her appearance in relation to her age.
Brown appeared on the Call Her Daddy podcast with Alex Cooper. During the episode, she spoke about how she is portrayed in tabloid media, how much they love pointing out that she looks older than her age and also remark upon her accent changing.
“A thing I get a lot is like, ‘Oh my God, she looks like 40’,” she said to Cooper, “And I’m like, well yeah, you did meet me when I was 10, so I understand. Now I’m 21, it’s been 10 years. She grows. My face like, grew. What do you want me to do about that?”
Brown said that she used to worry about the comments and try to change her appearance in light of them; however, she now doesn’t bother as she is in a place where she is comfortable with her appearance.
“It used to get to me, it did,” she said, “And I remember trying to change myself to please the masses,” she said. “And actually now, I’m in a place where, yeah, my accent does change. My face does grow. I do wear a lot of makeup. It’s just the kind of person I am.”
This isn’t the first time Brown has addressed some of the negative comments she receives in the media. On March 3rd, she shared a post on social media about how frustrating it is to see people constantly criticise her changing appearance despite the fact that she joined the entertainment industry as a child.
“I started in this industry when I was 10 years old,” she wrote. “I grew up in front of the world, and for some reason, people can’t seem to grow with me. Instead, they act like I’m supposed to stay frozen in time, like I should still look the way I did on Stranger Things Season 1. And because I don’t, I’m now a target.”
