Groovy, baby: Mike Myers confirms ‘Austin Powers 4’

Mike Myers has some great news for fans of the Austin Powers franchise, after confirming that Austin Powers 4 will indeed be going ahead.

Myers, the creative mastermind behind the iconic comedy series, first starred in 1997’s Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery, in which his titular character was frozen in the 1960s for three decades. He arrives in the 1990s to battle his nemesis, Dr Evil, also played by Myers.

The film, which cheekily spoofed the well-known James Bond franchise, was a huge box office hit. From there, Myers starred in two sequels, 1999’s The Spy Who Shagged Me and 2003’s Goldmember, which also featured Beyoncé.

Other key actors that appear throughout the franchise include Elizabeth Hurley, Heather Graham, Mindy Sterling, Verne Troyer, Michael Caine, and Seth Green.

Over two decades since the last instalment, Myers has hopeful news for Powers fanatics by way of Trevor Noah’s World Cup Watch Party. On the social media channel, the 63-year-old actor was asked, “Are we ever going to see an Austin Powers 4?” to which he replied, “Yes!”

Though at this time no more details are available, Myers was recently seen on the big screen in the record-breaking biopic, Michael, where he played music executive Walter Yetnikoff.

Myers has always been open to a future which includes more Powers tales, sharing in 2024 that he believed there were “absolutely” more stories to tell. Last year, he also revived the iconic villain Dr Evil for a Saturday Night Live sketch, which went after now-trillionaire Elon Musk.

Myers has a knack for finding comedic stories that settle into the heart of the cultural moment; he has voiced Shrek for all four movies, and can be heard in the fifth, forthcoming instalment set to arrive in June 2027.

It’s only a matter of time before more information about Austin Powers 4, including plot details and cast members, is shared with the world. Groovy, baby.
