Mighty Hoopla spin-off in Malta cancelled due to airline industry issues

The Malta edition of the Mighty Hoopla festival has been cancelled in anticipation of further issues in the airline industry.

The event was set to take place between September 24th and September 27th, featuring artists such as Sugababes, Jake Shears, Beth Ditto, Jamelia, Liberty X and Meek.

However, just over a month on from announcing the festival, organisers have now confirmed it will not be going ahead amid growing global uncertainty.

In a statement, they shared on May 7th, “It’s with a very heavy heart that we must inform you that after much consideration, we are cancelling Mighty Hoopla Malta 2026.”

Organisers continued, “After an incredible weekend in 2025, we had everything in place to not only replicate that magic for this year, but also deliver an even better show.”

They then shared how the jet fuel crisis caused by the conflict in the Middle East has been instrumental in their decision to cancel, noting, “The airline industry is expecting disruption this summer, and so we have been in contact with airlines connected to Malta to understand the likely impact.”

During their conversations with airlines, they were “advised that fewer flights will be scheduled and that prices will likely go up,” which Mighty Hoopla Malta says “leaves us in a very different position to when we first launched the event.”

Mighty Hoopla Malta stressed to ticket-holders that “this decision has not been taken lightly” and they will receive an automatic full refund, including booking fees, within days.

They also highlighted that many people may have booked flights and accommodation for the festival already, writing, “If you do decide to cancel your trip to Malta, we intend to offer compensation in the form of credit or refunds relating to our London festival or future shows,” but did concede it “won’t solve all the effort and time you have spent”.

The statement concluded, “We hope you can understand why we have had to make this decision, and can see it’s been made with our community at the forefront of our mind. To those that were there in 2025, thank you, we’ll always keep Rain On Me at Bora Bora in our hearts.”

Mighty Hoopla’s UK edition is still going ahead at the end of this month at Brockwell Park in London, with Lily Allen and Scissor Sisters set to headline the LGBTQ+ celebration.
