Mick Fleetwood pleads with Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham to repair friendship
Fleetwood Mac’s Mick Fleetwood recently addressed the ongoing rift between former bandmates Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham, saying that he wishes the pair “would pal up a bit more”.
Nicks and Buckingham have endured a decades-long turbulent relationship based on disagreements and estrangement, beginning with their romantic entanglement in the 1970s and continuing until their more recent fallout, which saw him fired from Fleetwood Mac entirely.
Nicks said she made the decision just before a MusicCares benefit in 2018, later telling Rolling Stone that she “dealt” with Buckingham for “as long as I could” and that she gave him “more than 300 million chances.” It’s assumed that the pair have not been in contact since apart from one three-minute-long conversation at the memorial service for Christine McVie in 2023.
Now, Fleetwood has weighed in, addressing their ongoing feud to Us Weekly at Steven Tyler’s Janie’s Fund Grammys viewing party on February 2nd. His remark showed a desire for the pair to reconcile, likely understanding that they have too much history to leave things negatively.
“I always have a fantasy that [Stevie] and Lindsay would pal up a bit more and just say everything’s OK for them both,” the 77-year-old said, adding, “But we’ve had such an incredible career.”
Despite Nicks’ distance from Buckingham, she remained close to McVie until she passed away, after which she quashed any possibility of a Fleetwood Mac reunion, stating that there was “no path forward” without McVie’s involvement.
However, reunion or not, Fleetwood remains hopeful that Nicks and Buckingham will one day patch things up, previously telling Mojo that he wishes to see some “healing” between them, even if it doesn’t lead to a musical collaboration.
“It’s no secret, it’s no title-tattle that there is a brick wall there emotionally,” the musician explained. “Stevie’s able to speak clearly about how she feels and doesn’t feel, as does Lindsey. But I’ll say, personally, I would love to see a healing between them – and that doesn’t have to take the shape of a tour, necessarily.”
