Michael Pitt arrested in New York on sexual abuse charges

Actor Michael Pitt, best known for his role in Boardwalk Empire, was recently arrested in New York on charges of alleged sexual abuse.

Court records, viewed by Variety, state Pitt was arrested and arraigned at the Kings Supreme Criminal Court in Brooklyn, New York City, on May 2nd, 2025. The charges relate to a string of alleged incidents involving Pitt and an ex-girlfriend.

According to court documents, four alleged incidents are claimed to have occurred between April 2020 and August 2021.

Pitt has been charged with two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, in addition to counts of assault injury with a blunt object and strangulation in the second degree. He has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges, according to TMZ.

The actor, who has also appeared in Dawson’s Creek, has posted bail and been released from custody. Pitt is next due to appear in court on June 17th.

His attorney, Jason Goldman, told Variety in a statement: “Unfortunately, we live in a world where somebody like Mr. Pitt — an accomplished professional who would never so much as contemplate these crimes — can be arrested on the uncorroborated word of an unhinged individual.”

Goldman continued: “In reality, this baseless claim is suspiciously raised some four or five years after the alleged incident, at a time when the two parties were in a completely consensual and voluntary relationship. This case will be dismissed.”

Pitt was previously arrested and charged with assault and petty larceny following a physical confrontation with another man in July 2022. He was hospitalised later that year after being accused of throwing objects at people from a rooftop.
